Not all airport rules make sense. Sure, I understand not bringing firecrackers on a plane, and yes, I can comprehend that you don’t want the average Joe to be able to bring a longsword on vacation. But do I really need to throw out the water bottle I just bought? You sell them like 20 feet before security!

One such understandable rule is knives. In most airports, you have to get rid of your knives before you get through the security checkpoint. But in Switzerland, if you get rid of your knife, you can just buy a new one. At the airport.

In a post on X/Twitter, a user vented his frustration about having to throw away all sharp objects, only to be met with a place that sells sharp objects.

“Dear @zrh_airport, how come I have to take out all sharp objects *before* security, and then I can buy a whole collection of Swiss Army knives right *after* security?”

It’s a fair point. Luckily for him, the Zurich airport was quick to respond that one can actually carry blades with them through the airport, so long as they are less than six centimeters in length.

You got that? Five-centimeter blade safe, 120 milliliter of water unsafe. Our society makes sense.
